He swam for what seemed like days until he had lost all sense of certain aspects of himself. He was torn and utterly confused in all of the darkness. He floundered until he seemed to grapple the touch th eground in the murky shadows of which he swam. Hilster diligently persisted until he finally foundered onto some semblence of land an island in the sea of nothing. His fur felt damp with regrets and terrors he fell heavily panting to his haunches and scorned the air with all his breath, berating his descent to such a place; oh how he would have run away in horror had he knew of the darkness without. Hilster bagan to gain his bearing and started to stare about into the void. It seemed infinite, and he could not even begin to imagine the direction back to the valley. All he had was the snow that was clotted to his tail still. He lamented his misfurtune and worried he would be trapped in th edark for enternity. All he could think was how he wished he could warn some others from wandering through the doorway; the one he blamed his obsessive curiosity upon. But, Alas, he was alone in the Abyss.
